PHEF Logo Contest

2021 ORGANIZATIONAL LOGO DESIGN CONTEST

A Brief History of PHEF

PHEF was established in 1988 by a small group of visionaries that believed in the importance of higher education, especially in the underserved Hispanic communities.  We were most known for H.OR.I.S.O.N.S. “Hispanic Outreach ISearch of New Scholars”.  PHEF has grown over our thirty-three years of service to better support our community of scholars.

Our Mission

Over our thirty-three years, our mission has never changed. The Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation helps students turn their educational dreams into goals and those goals into reality by providing scholarships and support for higher education to students in need from all backgrounds from Pueblo and Southern Colorado to assist them in achieving lifelong success.

Our Vision

The Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation aspires to advance the educational goals of all students, including those of Hispanic ancestry, in Pueblo County, and Southern Colorado, thereby raising the economic, health, and cultural status of the entire community.

Our Core Values

Scholarships: We value every student’s opportunity to further their education and support student success.

Education: We believe that every student should be afforded the right to pursue an education.

Excellence: We encourage the pursuit of excellence in education.

Dedication: We support student dedication towards their continuing education.

Success: We measure success by the educational attainment of scholarship recipients.

We acknowledge all students are like SEEDS; full of potential and in need of what will nurture them to grow: Scholarships, Education, Excellence, Dedication, and Success.

Logo History

PHEF has been in the community for over thirty years and has transitioned logos to evolve as the organization grew.  Today PHEF continues to grow and changing times and new trends have caused us to reconsider our brand, so it is a better fit for the company’s culture, attitude, and goals.

We need your help reimagining our logo—embodying our past, present, and future.

Mission A - Reimagine our current sun logo

The sun logo was a spin on the original HORISONS logo in that a scholarship would create a dawn of a new day for students to learn through the opportunity the scholarship created for them.

Specific items to consider in this reimagined version of the current logo:

  • Consider the history it represents and the outlook for the future.
  • The colors used were to represent the sun and the traditional teal color from the previous logo.
  • How can it be modernized?
  • What can make our logo unique?
  • The font used in the name Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation can be interchangeable with PHEF as an acronym.

Rules:

  1. Logo must incorporate the idea of a sun, horizon and the dawn of a new day.
  2. Logo designs must include our logo colors; additional colors may be added, but they must be justified in your explanation and the HEX or RGB values provided
  3.    HEX: #1a9199 RGB: (26,145,153)
  4.    HEX: #ffc700 RGB: (255,199,0)
  5. Logos must be at least 72 ppi or 300 dpi or submitted as a vector image
  6. A short essay explaining your design must accompany your design
  7. Explanations should include the changes you made, and how your design reflects our mission, vision, and values, as well as our history and Hispanic roots.
  8. All submissions must include a logo design, short essay, and a signed copy of the release form
  9. Files should be titled: LastName_DesignA, LastName_ExplanationA, and LastName_ReleaseA
  10. Submissions with missing elements will be disqualified

Mission B – Completely new design to represent organization

In this version, you should reimagine our logo completely.  What do you believe would represent the mission, vision, and core values of the organization?

Specific items to consider in this completely new design:

  • Consider why a sun was chosen as the logo.
  • What message is it conveying?
  • What tone is it conveying?
  • What other images can convey the same message and tone?
  • Should the message or tone be changed?
  • The font used in the name Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation can be interchangeable with PHEF as an acronym.
  • What will make our logo unique?
  • How can our logo reflect our history, while staying relevant over the coming years?

Rules:

  1. Logo designs must include our current logo colors; additional colors may be added, but they must be justified in your explanation and the HEX or RGB values provided
  2.    HEX: #1a9199 RGB: (26,145,153)
  3.    HEX: #ffc700 RGB: (255,199,0)
  4. Logos must be at least 72 ppi or 300 dpi or submitted as a vector image
  5. A short essay explaining your design must accompany your design
  6. Your essay should explain why you chose the design and colors you did, how it reflects our mission, vision, values, and history, what makes the logo relevant and long-lasting. It should also explain how your design reflects our mission, vision, and values, as well as our history and Hispanic roots.
  7. All submissions must include a logo design, short essay, and a signed copy of the release form
  8. Files should be titled: LastName_DesignB, LastName_ExplanationB, and LastName_ReleaseB
  9. Submissions with missing elements will be eliminated

Notes:

  • You must be a current high school senior or current college student to enter.
  • You may submit more than one design, with each design as its own separate entry. If you submit more than one design label your files accordingly.   i.e., LastName_DesignA1, LastName_DesignA2, and LastName_DesignB1.
  • Submissions will be accepted at Natasha@phef.net until 5PM on October 1st. Late submissions will not be considered.
  • The top three finalists will be announced by October 8th. Finalists will be invited to our new signature annual event on November 4th, where the winning design will be announced to the Pueblo Community.

Prize:

  • The winning entry will receive recognition and promotion around the creation of the design.
  • The winner will receive a scholarship to their institution of higher learning.  No cash will be given directly to the student, but to the school.
  • A letter of recommendation or support will be provided to the winner from Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation Executive Director and Board of Directors.
